[ Biography ]

 

Born in Zacatecas, Zacatecas, México (1928).

Studied in Mexico at UNAM (University of Mexico), National School of Plastic Arts. In 1954 went to Paris to study sculpture under Ossip Zadkine at the Academia Colorossi. Has been active in both painting and sculpture, winnin particular recognition for his original and vanguard work as a sculptor. Has done sculptural metal murals for public and private buildings. Has had works selected for the First and Second Paris Biennials, the Sixth Sao Paulo Biennial, the Fourth Tokyo Biennial and the Twentieth Watercolor Biennial of the Brooklyn Museum. In 1973 was accepted as a member of the Mexican Academy of Art; in 1975 was awarded a Guggenheim fellowship, and in 1988 won the National Art Award. Has shown his work in numerous international exhibitions.
